Historic native red grape variety from Friuli.

Schioppettino Friuli Colli Orientali DOC
Its cradle is the area of Prepotto, and we find it in the DOC Friuli Colli Orientali appellation. Until just a few decades ago it was commonly called Ribolla Nera or Poçalza. According to the notes taken by the renowned Italian writer and filmmaker Mario Soldati during one of his wine travels across Italy, the latter term would derive from the Slovenian onomatopoeic expression Pòcanza, used to describe the sound—similar to a “pòc”—made by squeezing a berry of this grape between the fingers.
